Dear Orchona

Dear Orchona, How are you today? You will be glad to hear that my informal school has been able to attract a considerable number of visitors. Today's statistics reveal that there has been 66 views from 15 countries including Palestine. Most of the visitors from Great Britain today. If things really work well, the way it is moving now, I intend to buy SPSS software to exhibit various application so that people can be benefited out of it.  But I need to have a proper employment so that I can do all these tasks.

It is deep night in Dallas. If you allow me, I go back to sleep. Maria is in deep sleep. Please pray for my daughter, the way you pray for everyone.

Dear Orchona, I have one query. How have you been able to free yourself from all greed and jealousy ? As you are free from all greed and jealousy, I see you not to complain about life. I see you happy all the time.Only a happy man can serve others, the way you are doing now.

So far I have uploaded 21 videos. Now I am preparing slides of ARCH and GARCH model and would like to upload it by tomorrow. Daily I see there are 80 views on average from 10 to 15 countries. I am also getting good feedback from visitors. You can see my video channel or school. Sayed Hossain Channel

Yes I have bought Eviews software and with it I have started my school. So far I have uploaded 21 videos and have plan to upload another 21 videos using Eviews.

After completing Eviews, I have intention to buy SPSS software so that I can exhibit models like anova, manova, factor analysis etc. But the problem is I have no fund to buy it. I will have to wait for fund. Or if I get a good job, I can start my school again. Indeed I intend to buy seven software for my school.

After finishing my school, I shall be start walking in the Dallas highway. I may come back or not.

I have left Pizza Hut job

As my car is totally damaged, I have left my Pizza Hut job. But I am continuing my part time teaching with College in the morning. One person rides me and my daughter in the morning to reach school. She charges really little so I can afford. Meanwhile I am looking for a car as you can go almost no where in Dallas area without car. Hiring a private taxi is expensive in Dallas area.

Although I have no car now, I am enjoying life as winter is coming gradually. In the evening, I experience cool breeze that really gives me new strength to fight back. Indeed I am much better than the people living in Somalia now, who are dying from hunger and starvation. Mothers are moving to another place on foot in search of food but they are carrying only those child who can survive until food station, and leaving the rest in the streets.

All my savings get finished in USA

My today's bank balance has been record low, even I can not survive another one month with this savings. Luckily I have a job at Collin College and they will pay some money after few weeks. So I can run my family for another four months as my contract with Collin College would be ended in December 2011.

Whatever the resources I brought to USA from Malaysia, all is finished as I could not manage suitable job over the last 14 months due to economic downturn. The salary I receive from Collin College will allow me to pay house rent and one month meal. There will be no saving at all at the end of the day. I am looking for alternative sources of income and probably I will get back to my father (Normally father earns  for his family and we children get helped out of it  without any effort)

In addition to that, last week my car broke down and I took it to a guarage. The mechanics so far failed to repair it. I have only one car in my possession and in Dallas area, without a car you can go no-where as the public transportation system is designed poorly. They encourage private ownership of vehicles.

She is asking me, I want to see how long you can survive in this way?
As long as You want, I reply.
Yes, that is the answer, She Smiles.

But I am enjoying the situation as I am learning new things, never faced before. Last time I had a good job, spent money easily but now I can not. But last time I did not learn hardship, so could not learn life. Now I am gathering knowledge, making me competitive and knowledgeable. Thanks to Her for opening a new avenue of learning.

New Job at Collin College in Dallas

Finally I have been appointed to teach economics in Collin College for fall semester. My lectures have commenced since last week. The  campus is just 20 minutes drive from my Richardson place. In the morning, first I drop my daughter at school at 7.10am and then I drive for college. I come back home sometime at 11.30 am. As the job in Collin College is a part time one, I am still holding my Pizza Hut position. In the morning, I teach economics and in the evening I work at Pizza Hut to supplement my income. I do not know how long I can handle two jobs at a time.

This is for today. I shall be writing in details later. We are going to celebrate Eid Ul Fitre tomorrow in Dallas. Eid Mubarak to all of you. How is life?

My Pizza Hut job is going on

My Pizza Hut job is going smoothly. I work there around 20 hours a week mainly in the evening as most of the pizza orders are placed during that time. My tasks are to deliver pizza door to door, cleaning utensils and managing customers. I earn money hourly and also tips from the customers. The income I receive can support my house rent only and the rest I spend from my personal belongings.

US economy has reached at its bottom and rate of unemployment is still at record high, registering at 9 percent. Government is cutting spending to avoid defaults that will trigger unemployment problem further.

Join at Pizza Hut

I have joined Pizza Hut from last week. There had been an wonderful event yesterday at Pizza Hut where I worked 5 hours although I had been initially scheduled to work 3 hours. I did extra two hours.

My task was mainly to deliver Pizza and I did it to seven places. I also cleaned utensils and other stuffs using washing machines. I also asked to entertain guests.

People over there are friendly and I took the job as a fun. At the end I have some tips in my wallet. My today's schedule is little bit longer than yesterday and I will be rushing there this afternoon.

You can see my CV where I have put Pizza Hut as my new employer.

Want to write a paper on quantitative easing using VECM model

I intend to write a paper on quantitative easing,  very recently adopted by Federal Reserve System in USA. I intend to use vector error correction model to analyze whether adoption of quantitative easing has been fruitful for US economy. To run the vector error correction model, I need Eviews which I do not have right now so I can not run. The price of it is also high, asking about $450 for single user. I can not afford it now. Anyone can allow me to use Eviews for a while? (Just kidding)

Bank of Japan and European Central Bank have also used quantitative easing to revive their economies. Quantitative easing is used mainly when the interest rate goes down to zero percent but economy is still sluggish, Central Bank prints money to buy huge amounts of financial assets from the economy so that money enters into economy to spur economic growth. If you want to know more about quantitative easing you can check my website. Click here

If you want to know about vector error correction model, you can also browse my website. Click here

While being in Multimedia University in Malaysia, I had all software, Eviews, Amos, Lindo, Lingo. SPSS. Minitab etc and I frequently used them to run my data but now even I do not have a single one under my possession.

I am looking for a job that will allow me to use all software such as Eviews, Amos, Lindo, Lingo, Minitab, SPSS etc. When can I get this job?

When do you want this job? God probably ask me in my inner sense with a smile.
When You permit me, I reply.
Yes, that is the answer, She smiles.

Today I am slightly sick so sitting at home looking through windows. Life in Dallas is very good due to good weather, fresh foods and presence of big big trees especially my town where I live in has lots of Oak trees and green fields where I walk through and enjoy shade of sun light and rainfall.

What is Quantitative Easing 2 (QE2) adopted by Federal Reserve System?

Few people asking me about it. I have already posted in my Economic Diary. Also posting it here. Click here.

Should Federal Reserve adopt QE3 after June? I can comment on it after June 2011 when the QE2 session would be ended.

Many people say that QE2 has lots of weaknesses. Yes, I do agree but without QE2, the rate of unemployment would have been 11 percent and the US economy may enter into deflation.

Due to QE2, Long Run Rate such as 10 year or 30 year Treasury Yield have gone down to almost 3 percent. So there may be a boost up in long run spending, is required for reviving the economy.

But the most alarming thing, housing prices are plummeting despite several intervention by Washington.

62nd wedding anniversary of my parents

My parents got married on March 13, 1949 at Enayetpur, a small village of Sirajganaj in Bangladesh, just 62 years ago from now. We would like to celebrate the day, which is today. My brothers and sisters are celebrating too in their own places. My father was 25 while my mother crossed 16 at the event of marriage.

Both of my parents were from same village, Enayetpur, a small village in Bangladesh beside Jamuna river. Although I was born in Dhaka, I had a strong affiliation with Enayetpur due to my parental homeland. We used to visit their twice a year especially during summer and winter. We have lots of memories over there especially my parents are lying there peacefully with their ancestor now.

My father passed his college life in Rajshahi from Rajshahi College. Later on, he went to Anandamohan College in Mymensing to study bachelor in history, just immediately before the Indian Independence. My mother was a housewife, spent her whole life to raise seven children with her thin hands (as she was a thin lady). So whenever we think about our mother, a pair of thin hand appears before us, with it she served us day and night. May Allah be kind upon them, they way they were on us.

My father saw Mahatma Gandhi in his own eyes. He also met Subash Chandra Basu, Shordal Patel, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad during his early age.

However I have cooked some special foods to celebrate the event. Pictures are given below. This year we did not invite anyone but next year we have plan to do so.

How to survive?

As I said, I am teaching part time in this spring semester, would be ended in May. The money I receive from teaching can cover my house rent and water bills. The rest expenses, I withdraw from my past savings that I brought from Malaysia, which is about to finish.

This week I am hunting again for all types of odd jobs but not getting at all due to economic sluggishness. Today I went to few shopping malls and restaurants for jobs. They told me that they would be contacting me over telephone, meaning that chances of getting the job is slim. Indeed, these companies normally hire teen aged or young girls/boys, not an old person like me, as the job demands some physical actions such as cleaning and washing.

I applied to most of the educational institutes for a full time position. They acknowledged all my applications but at the end of day they disappeared from the radar.

One of the Deans of a Business School emailed me that they received 250 applications against a single post. All applicants are eligible for the post, he mentioned in the email.

Most disadvantage part lies with me that I do not have any US based educational certificate, one of the vital conditions for getting a suitable job.

Current rate of unemployment in USA is stood at almost 9 percent, close to the prevailing rate in Europe. Many US companies have migrated to India and China together with jobs in quest of lower labor cost.

The United States of America is suitable for computer oriented people, not a person like me.

So what I should do now ? Should I stay or leave the country ? Leaving the USA would not be a solution as Maria likes her teacher, particularly the school. Komol is preparing for her qualifying exam, so she should not be disturbed. Personally I like Dallas too due to chilly weather, Oak trees and sweat smell in the air.

In this situation, if I go back to Bangladesh, I can stay there happily as my parents have left a place for me to stay. I can also work there as lots of private universities are operating there. Thanks God I have at least one place to stay as millions over there do not have any. So I should not complain about life.

But going back to pavilion would not bring a solution especially after spending one year in Texas. I need to find out ways to survive.

I need $2K monthly to have a minimum decent life. How do I spend this $2K each month?
House rent : $ 865, Water $ 50, Internet : $30, Power $ 130, Car insurance $ 50, Telephone $ 100, Food $ 500 etc. This is a typical expenses for a family of three in the United States.

Luckily, US Federal and State Govt are jointly supporting Maria's health and education, otherwise we would have left the country many days ago as the cost involved in these two sectors is unbearable by the the low income group in the United States. I would say, most of the poor children would have died if the US Govt did not share medical expenses. As said, 13-17 percent of the population are living below the poverty line in USA and I am one of them as per the poverty measurement guideline.

In this regard, I would like to recollect my memory about a book that I read  while being in Malaysia. The book contains all the letters of Poet Modhusudan Dutta, during the period when the poet brought his family to London to study law. During his stay in London, the poet faced hardship due to lack of financial support to maintain his family and study. In his letters, written to friends, he expressed all his agony and  challenges, he encountered from financial scarcity. The poet wrote most of his letters to Isharchandra Biddashagor, an outstanding personality in this contemporary world. I learned a lot from his letters so do Komol. But the promising news is that at the end of the day, poet got his law degree and returned to India after all these struggles.

Although I am passing through uncertainty, I am not regretting  as the situation is helping me to know how to  get things managed in the rainy days.  Komol and Maria are also learning, helping them to get prepared for the future challenges.

Only we can learn, when hardship and scarcity appear in life. I want to fight back again and again in the midst of clouds and fogs. Hoping that a light will be appeared at the end of the tunnel eventually. I would like to remember the holy scripture, Even if you ask the mountain to move, it will, if you have the faith.

Whenever I walk in the street, God smiles at me to see my condition.
She probably says, I want to see how long you survive in this way.
As long as You want, I reply in my heart.
Yes, that is the answer, She smiles.

As I said before, I am not good at writing English. So please read my article with caution.

Do you think I am wring something gloomy? No, it is not. I am hopeful one day I will overcome all. If Columbus could round the world with an wooden ship, I can also run my family.

You can see a symbol of poverty in my SLR camera. I put high shutter speed to enhance the sharpness of the picture.

Whether a tiger is ferocious?

A tiger lives in the forest and usually recognized as ferocious animal.  We frequently see in the media that a tiger is running after its prey with its long teeth. The beast apparently looks ferocious at that moment.

But, by nature, by default, a tiger can not eat anything other than flesh. The tiger hunts animals for the purpose of its survivale. Without flesh the tiger would have died. So how can we say a tiger is ferocious ?

At the below, Maria is using my computer wearing my glass.

Deep Jele Jai - A Bengali Film

Just downloaded the bengali film Deep Jele Jai on line. I saw this film many years ago and yesterday I saw it again. It is an excellent movie by Shuchitra Sen. Just go to Google and find the free downloading.

It is a story of a hospital nurse who serves a mental patient to give light into his heart so that the patient can be recovered. The nurse was asked to act as a lover of the mental patient as a part of therapy. Finally, the patient gets recovered and releases from the hospital after all those therapies. But the nurse, who was supposed to act as lover, falls in love with the patient in reality. As soon as the patient walks away from hospital, the nurse becomes mentally ill and got admitted into the same hospital as a mental patient. The name of the nurse was Radha

The famous songs are:
1. Ei raat tomar amar ...
2. Tomar moton sister ...

If you have time, you can download it. Just type Deep Jele Jai  in Google search box. You will see two film, one got English subtitle and other do not have.

Here, Deep means light or candle, Jele Jai means I am lightening. So the name of the film  I am lightening candle

Here, the nurse Radha lightening the candle in the hearts of the mental patients. As a result, patients get recovered from mental distress but at the cost of Radha's agony.

The film reminds me about Florence Nightingale, a favorite personality of mine. Florence Nightingale was a nurse, served war injured patients in a hospital. At night, she used to visit her patients with a lamp and that is why she is known as The lady with the Lamp

I am gradually making a website of Florence Nightingale and will be releasing in future

My personal blog 'Sayed Hossain Diary' has entered 1k visitors

Happy to see that my personal blog 'Sayed Hossain Diary' has entered into 1k visitors last week since its inception in May 2011. Thanks to those who have spent their valuable time on my personal diary.

It is appreciated always if you come up with comments so that I can know the right thing.

As I said before, I am not good at writing English so read my articles with caution. I have been advised to learn English and I am trying to upgrade my command over English. Thinking of taking a course on how to produce good English sentences.

Thank you once again.

Life is as usual. I am teaching this week how to calculate the total production, goods and services produced in the United States in one year time period

Dallas is under snow

For the last seven days, I am experiencing 'Snow Rain' in Dallas area. All the schools are closed for the last seven days. It is hard to drive in the streets due to slippy road condition so I am not driving. Life has been stagnant not only in Dallas but throughout United States.

Normally Dallas is not a snow prone area as it is located in the South. Snow gets heavier if you head to North, towards Canada.

I am sitting at home idle as all classes are temporarily canceled due to inclement weather. Komol has cooked a special Bangladeshi food 'Khichuri' while I have cooked 'Chicken'. So there had been wonderful days.

I am spending most of my time beside the window to see 'Snow Rain' as stuffs are falling from heaven. God has come down with Her beauty in which we are dwelling. Specially snow falls at night is extremely beautiful so I sleep beside the window to see the falling . Snow falls gradually while I enter into sleep and dream.

Sun is almost disappeared for the last seven days while snow storm is replacing the place. Temperature has dropped to 13 degree F in Dallas area. Maria went down into the snow to play. Weather Department has predicted that temperature would go up to 40 degree F on Monday meaning that sun is likely to appear. In USA, weather forecast is very reliable and normally we set our plan on the basis of forecast.

Since I am sitting at home, I have again edited the manuscript 'Abar Shei Britte' to get it published on March 17, 2011. Last time I failed to publish it on Jan 23 as planned. It is a story of  Rusha, a Bangladeshi immigrant residing in the US with her family.

You can see some pictures taken through my apartment window in Dallas.

My teaching with North Central Texas College

Finally I have got a part time job in North Central Texas College to teach Economics. I have started to teach since Jan 18, the day is also Maria's birthday.

North Central Texas College is a Govt owned institute where they offer various programs ranging from economics to medicine (so far I have seen in their web page).

I have taken already one week lecture. I am teaching Macroeconomics for this semester.

Last week, I  lectured on few issues such as, how the spending affects the economy ? If the spending gets squeezed or increased, how the Govt and Central Bank can compensate it ? What are the issues being debated in US Congress to manage recession ?

I found students in the class are calm and polite. So far I did not face any difficulty to teach. I am putting  lecture notes in my personal website so that students can access to it. You can see my lecture notes page. Click here

I taught Economics almost twelve years in Malaysia and now I am teaching in USA. I have the same feeling that I had in Malaysia.

I need to drive almost 70 minutes in the early morning to reach my office. I come back home at 10.30 am and bring Maria to school.

I am looking for a full time teaching position around and hope so I will get one.

Whether God is aggressive?

What is the nature of God? Whether She wants to fight back with the devils or allow them to control the earth ? I would like to discuss this issue in the light of  holy books.

First, I would like to talk about Hindu Supreme God, Lord Vishnu. Many Hindu scholars are with the opinions that Lord Vishnu came down on earth at least 9 to 11 times in the shape of human (or other form) to defend mankind from devils. For example, Krishna, Ram and Gautam Budhdha are beleived to be incarnations of Lord Vishnu. In other words, Krishna, Ram and Gautam Buddah are the same Person.

Hinduism beleives in Trinity (three in one or one in three) where Lord Vishnu is the preserver, Lord Shiva is  the destroyer and Lord Brahma is the creator of the universe. In other words, Hindu Supreme God has three personalities, Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma, similar to Christianity such as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Through Krishna, Lord Vishnu fought against Kauravas in the Kurushkhetra War to establish righteousness on earth. In the Kurushkhetra War, Krishna orderded Arjuna to kill all his brothers for the sake of righteousness and Arjuna did it. Eventually, Kauravas defeated and Pandavas got back their kingdom. Through the war of Kurushkhetra, mankind was restored and devils were destroyed. In this case, we see God has taken aggresive role for restoring  mankind and righteousness.

Indeed, Holy Gita was revealed to Arjuna by Krishna in the midst of Kurushkhetra war.

Through Ram, Lord Vishnu destroyed Ravana and his son Indrajit, Kumbhokorna, brother of Ravana to establish righteousness on this land. Here we see God is also merciless in the question of  perishing devils.

The story is different in case of Gautam Buddah. Gautam Buddah is beleived to be one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. But we never saw Gautam Buddah to engage in battle, rather He taught people to ran away from war and struggle to attain Nirvana, a state of mind where you will be able to break the Cycle of Rebirth . So the role of God as well as the teaching of God is different  in case of Gautam Buddah  from Krishna and Ram.

If we look into Islam, Islam does not beleive in incarnation (God Herself comes down on earth in the shape of human to preach religion). God sent prophets as Her messengers to speak Her words and Her existence. Noah, Moses, Jesus (Prophet Isa), John (Prophet Yahya) and Mohammad are the prominent prophets among thousands.

God directly helped prophet Moses to destroy Faraoh's army in the Nile River. God also encouraged Prophet Mohammad to engage in war to defend Islam as a result there were 27 wars (small and large).

In case of Noah, God destroyed the non-beleivers by a flood.

So we see God is aggresive in case of Noah, Moses and Mohammad for establishing truth.

But we see the same God is behaving quite differently in case of Jesus (Prophet Isa). God did not fight back against Romans and Jewes who tortured Jesus. Instead Jesus was exhaulted to heaven directly (Christians beleive that Jesus was crucified by the Romans and Jewes while Islam says Jesus was exhaulted to heaven directly just before the crucifixation attempt by the Roman Governor Pilat). As a result, Roman and Jewes successfully fulfilled their desire. Devils survived while mankind was at stake.

In the past, many prophets were killed by the devils and God allowed it to happen. The best example is John (Prophet Yahya), killed by King Herod.

So it has been very difficult to conclude about the nature of God as She is behaving differently from time to time. Whether God is aggresive to defend righteousness or prefers to avoid confrontation or allows devils to rule the earth or something else beyond human imagination?

I am not good at writing English so please read my article with caution.

Today weather in Dallas is chilly and we are cooking for a good launch at home. Today is Saturday so holiday.

Maria's birthday on Jan 18, 2011

We are arranging a small indoor program to celebrate Maria's birthday on Jan 18. In this regard, we will buy a cake and cook some good foods. We are going to order a cake today. She will be five years on the coming Jan 18.

I would like to invite you to attend at Maria's birthday. We are expecting doa on this event.

My lecture with the North Central Texas College (NCTC) will be commencing on the same day, that is Jan 18. It is almost one hour drive from my apartment. I have appointed to teach economics and it is a part time position. North Central Texas College is a government institute, offers various programs and courses ranging from economics to biology.

Since my job is a part time one, the income I will receive can support my housing bills and two meals a day (but not the third meal). However, I am happy as I have got something especially in these bad days US economy is passing by. To fill up the income gap, I am planning to join Kentucky Fried Chicken as a part timer.

Still the rate of unemployment stood at almost 9 percent in USA now.

Temperature has dropped heavily in Dallas. Last week we experienced Snow Rain. For the first time I saw snow falling. We took some pictures especially Maria was excited to see all those stuffs. Maria is on routine medication to get rid of her asthma problem. In Dallas area, most of the children got asthma. It is an asthma prone area.

We are enjoying chilly weather and fresh foods (Thanks Allah for Her consideration). Maria is fine going to school regularly.

You can see Maria's personal website. Click here
